Italy vs Georgia Prediction and Betting Tips – EuroBasket 2025

Italy and Georgia will face off in Group C Round 2 of EuroBasket, with tip-off scheduled for Saturday, 30 August 2025 at 14:00 CET. Both teams had very different experiences in their opening games, and this clash could prove decisive in shaping their group standings. This is our prediction for this match.

🏀 Prediction: Italy -4.5 Handicap @1.85

Italy suffered a 75-66 defeat against Greece in the first round, and that score alone reflects what went wrong. Offensively, they were completely out of rhythm, shooting poorly across the board. The biggest disappointment was star forward Simone Fontecchio, who managed just four points on 1/11 shooting. For a player expected to be the leader of his team, that was likely his worst performance of the tournament. The only bright spot was Nicolo Melli, who posted 15 points and seven rebounds, but Italy will need much more scoring help to get their first win.

Head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco can take one positive, however – despite their dreadful offensive display, Italy still trailed by only two possessions in the final minute. That resilience shows just how tough and dangerous this Azzurri team can be. Danilo Gallinari’s veteran experience could be crucial as the tournament goes on. Italy also won’t panic – three years ago, they finished fourth in a weaker group, only to shock Serbia in the Round of 16.

On the other side, Georgia made all the headlines of EuroBasket’s second day. Coming in as underdogs, Aleksandar Dzikic’s side stunned Spain 83-69 with a defensive masterclass. They completely shut down Spain’s frontcourt game, sowing doubt among the defending champions and forcing them into uncharacteristic misses from outside. Tornike Shengelia, who missed the entire preparation period but insisted on playing, was praised by his coach for a standout performance.

Sandro Mamukelashvili also entered the game with injury concerns but showed no signs of it, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Goga Bitadze added 15 points, while naturalized guard Kamar Baldwin proved to be the perfect fit. Unlike some of Georgia’s previous imports who played selfishly, Baldwin’s team-first mentality looks like a recipe for success. Georgia may lack depth beyond their starting five, but their core has enough quality to compete with anyone.

The win over Spain is proof that Georgia can cause real problems at this EuroBasket, but it also means Italy will approach this clash with maximum focus. Pozzecco’s side could hardly shoot worse than they did against Greece, and it’s unlikely they repeat such inefficiency in consecutive games. Italy’s deeper rotation, higher quality across the roster, and greater urgency in this matchup all lean in their favor. Add to that Shengelia and Mamukelashvili not being at full fitness, and the balance tilts towards the Azzurri.
